The Words Of Amos From God
Transgressions against the meek
Kindles fire in the wall
Two years before the earthquake
The Lord will roar from Zion
Top of Camel shall wither
Acts I will not turn away
He holds scepter of Eden
Kindle fire in the wall
Shall devour palaces
Day tempest in the whirlwind
He burned the bones into lime
Dies at sound of the trumpet
Sold the righteous for silver
And the poor for pair of shoes
Pant after dust of the earth
Ye children of Israel
Flight shall perish from the swift
Flee away naked that day
The random turn of the page brought us to Amos 1:1 - 3:1. Amos is considered a contemporary prophet in a nation politically strong but spiritually weak. Amos was a shepherd and gardener in Tekoa, Judah; about five miles south of Bethlehem during Jeroboam II reign. Jeroboam controlled the expanse of David and Solomon’s kingdom in an era of military conquest, economic prosperity, and moral darkness.
Amos delivers the news all are in line for total extinction. God is angry with Israel for three transgressions and four other nations God will not turn away the punishment. God’s anger is not for their false worship, but their violations to the simple obligation owed to their fellow human beings: slave trading, violations of human bonds, murder of pregnant women and their unborn, and incestuous and promiscuous sexual relations. God’s wrath is inescapable and comes in an attack by a stronger nation with complete devastation.
