This Day To You, I Thought I Should Say
Our spunk and rhythm flows from above,
Sometimes so high as on angel wings.
Mostly pressing through our sense of love,
A trial destined for heavenly things.
I to have been feeling low and lost,
I to cast eyes down and moving slow.
Fearful of every thought and their cost,
Planning how my every move will grow.
Love this morning soft when I awoke,
I saw my mini pity parade.
Blind to others by my prideful yoke,
A façade twined in my serenade.
Let's mark the hour and declare our hearts
No longer treading sly through our day.
We will savor as a morning lark
Praising favor that our sky is grey.
We will belch loud proudly with distaste
Overflowing from savored pâté
Living fully in God's loving grace
Welcome praise for our daily bread this day.
The arbitrary reading I Kings 19:10 - 20:25 brings us to Elijah having completed his forty day march to Mount Horeb or Sinai. After resting in a cave the word of the Lord came to Elijah asking, “What doest thou here, Elijah?” Elijah answers eloquently giving voice to God’s concerns before his own. God passes by with shaking wind, earth, and fire before sending forth his word back to Elijah to ask again, “What doest thou here, Elijah?” Elijah answers exactly the same and God sends him to anoint Elisha and transfer the prophet’s mantle. Elisha asks to kiss his parents. Elijah grants it so. Elisha prepares an enormous feast to say goodbye to all his friends and family before leaving to minister to Elijah.
